Overview
Joseph Bowen’s take on our classic Explorer design is a perfect execution of a high performance skeleton knife. The thin width of the skeleton knife makes it lightweight and easy to pack. Traditionally, this is at the cost of comfort and performance. The Explorer however excels in these areas thanks to Bowen’s use of profile and his masterful grinds. While thin, the handle stock’s height and unique perimeter paracord wrap allow for heavy use without the development of hotspots. The drop point CTS XHP blade features Bowen's signature high thin hollow grind, allowing this knife to cut way above its weight class. The sheath is a Kydex minimalist fold over style that will accept a Tek-Lok or Mummert Ti Clip. Versatility is key here: the knife can be clipped to a belt, lashed to a pack, worn IWB, or around the neck. The Bowen Explorer is a versatile companion whatever your next adventure may be.
Features:
-
Bowen’s craftsmanship shines in his ability to create a razor thin separation between the two blade grinds. The high hollow grind of the cutting edge reduces resistance for easier cutting.
-
The unique paracord wrap that runs along the perimeter of the handle creates a very useful negative space down the center. The thin footprint indexes your fingers positively to increase your overall control of the knife. In turn, heavier tasks become easier and there is less fatigue during longer working periods.
-
This edition utilizes CTS XHP, which possesses corrosion resistance equivalent to Type 440C stainless, but attains a maximum hardness of 64 HRC. This makes the blade more forgiving in outdoor environments.
-
The skeletonized handle comes pre-wrapped in 550 paracord, which can serve as a useful rope reserve or be reworked among the twelve lashing points to suit your specific needs.
Behind the Scenes with Joseph Bowen:
With a family history as blacksmiths and commercial fishermen, Joseph Bowen learned at a young age the importance of a good knife. Over the years while on his way to becoming a professional tattoo artist, his interest in knives never waned. He took side jobs as a blacksmith and refined his woodworking and leather tooling skills. With the help of a chance encounter, Joseph spent several years learning the ropes from Mike Snody before forging his own path.
