Overview

Our latest edition of the Free Hill Blades Trapper is a full custom build and a solid choice for EDC or outdoors. The Trapper is an all purpose blade for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and anything else you might need it for. Free Hill Blades is known for making exquisite traditional pattern blades to the highest detail. This edition of San Mai Trappers is 100% custom made by Curtis Halaand.

These Trapper knives are made from 410 SS laminated to an 80crv2 tool steel core and heat treated to 60 Rockwell. Our logo mirrors the FHB logo at the blade base. The handle is made with either butterscotch linen micarta or ironwood burl. Either choice contrasts beautifully with the San Mai blade.  Each knife comes with a handmade leather sheath set up for scout carry. This no-nonsense design is complimented by beautiful and contrasting material choices. This jack of all trades can get things done and look good doing it. This very limited edition is all proudly made in the USA.

Behind the Scenes with Free Hill Blades

Curtis Haaland came from a family of artists and enjoyed crafts from a young age. By high school his father began to teach him knife making. Curtis was seventeen when he forged his first blade, made from mild steel using cheap tools and a makeshift forge. At that moment he fell in love with the craft of knife making.

He enjoys that knives can be both a tool and an expression of art all in one. He designs his  knives with utilitarian purposes, while at the same time giving them a unique and creative design element. From the designing to forging, grinding, and handle making he wants each and every stage of the knife making process to show intention and purpose. He works hard to make knives in such a way that the lines flow nicely together, capturing the eye of the beholder. Curtis' attention to detail has produced some of the finest traditionally styled knives available.

Ironwood

Renowned for its stunning grain and unmatched density, Ironwood is one of the finest natural materials for knife handles. Sourced from the arid regions of the American Southwest, its natural oils make it resistant to moisture and cracking, while its rich, dark patterns offer a unique aesthetic that only gets better with time.

Butterscotch Linen Micarta

Born from layers of resin infused linen and pressure forged to perfection, this butterscotch colored linen micarta brings an ideal balance of grip, durability, and heritage aesthetic. Developing a warm glow of patina that tells your story after years of use. Lightweight yet incredibly tough, it offers reliable control in all conditions.
