Overview

This limited edition Half Track is available in either a working finish with topo handles, or a full DLC with subtle topo handles. Both of these editions come with tanto profile blades.

Hinderer Knives has a well deserved reputation for high-end and robust designs. The Half Track was developed to have a small overall footprint, but sacrifice none of the durability that Hinderer Knives is known for. Our relationship with Rick Hinderer began with our collaboration on the first custom Dauntless in 2004. We’re very proud to feature another Hinderer Knives collaboration.

With an overall length of only 6.65” and a folded length of 3.87” the Half Track all but disappears in the pocket. The S35Vn blade itself comes in at 2.83”, making it a perfect companion for environments where larger blades are restricted. This is where the docile nature of the knife ends. A product of Rick Hinderer’s expert design, the build of the Half Track is incredibly robust. The thickness of the scales and S35Vn blade are usually reserved for much larger knives. When coupled with a full titanium frame, this makes for a brute of a small folder. A perfectly profiled and contoured handle allows for a full grip in all but the largest of hands. The S35VN drop point blade has plenty of belly for long cuts and strength at the tip for piercing. Finished with Hinderer’s Working Finish, the Half Track is a durable jack of all trades, capable of taking on tasks that would give pause to many larger knives.

Features:
  • The Half Track  features a full titanium frame with a floating internal stop pin, oversized pivot and backspacers which creates an incredibly strong and durable platform. Combined with Rick’s signature Lockbar Stabilizer (LBS) to stop overtravel and reduce fatigue, the Half Track is a strong and durable tactical EDC.

  • Rick’s superb attention to detail shines in the accumulation of small considerations. From the matte “Working Finish”, which reduces glare and hides scratches, to the abundant amount of jimping on the main contact points, to the extra effort of cleanly turned down standoffs, this knife is more than a simple tool. Its balance between aesthetic, ergonomics and usefulness are evidence of Rick’s unique design foundation based on both art and tactical knives.

  • Hinderer Knives are well known for their customization potential. Each Hinderer has built in features that allow the user to personalize their knife with custom screw plates, scales and/or lanyards. The pocket clip is also designed for either tip up or tip down carry with an uncommon, but visually pleasing plate insert below the Lockbar Stabilizer (LBS) that can be filled in with a custom component.

  • One main purpose of a tactical knife is to be a useful tool, a concept not forgotten in this design. A traditional single-slot screwdriver pivot aids in ease of field maintenance. The flipper helps make deployment faster and acts as a protective guard to keep your grip from moving forward when the blade is open.

  • This TAD Edition iteration features a nod to our Dauntless by featuring three fullers and smooth titanium  on the handle, as opposed to Hinderer Knives’ usually textured handle materials. Our Logo is nestled between the oversized standoffs on both sides of the frame.

Behind the Scenes with Rick Hinderer

Almost 30 years ago, Rick Hinderer began his knife making journey by crafting art knives in a small 14’ x 18’ turkey coop. After becoming a firefighter, EMT and rescue diver, Rick leveraged his personal experiences to create and test hard-use, tactical folders. As his design philosophy evolved, so did his construction techniques. He transitioned from his original old world knife making techniques into a more modernized approach by using CNC precision manufacturing. With a dedication to artisanship and a meticulous attention to detail as a foundation, this unusual perspective between art and utility has allowed him to design extremely comfortable knives that are also aesthetically pleasing to the eye. All of Rick’s products are engineered to go the distance when it counts the most - whether it be when a life is on the line or when you need a reliable cutting tool.
